League Fees

Hey Everyone-

As you may have noticed if you have registered, we have increased fees by $3 this season. A general explanation is below, but if you're curious about more details, feel free to shoot us an email.

Your league fees cover a few basic expenses:

Fields (rented from Tallahassee Parks and Rec)
USA Ultimate insurance
Discs
Jerseys
Miscellaneous admin expenses (e.g. copies, postage)
Equipment (e.g. cones, water coolers)
League parties (we try to keep this expense low)
Rebates for new female players

Fall is our most expensive season, since we order discs for the whole year, so in the fall, our budget is tight, then we have some extra from spring and summer to start the cycle again. Most of our costs have stayed constant (or changed just a little) for the last couple of years, but we have tried a few different companies for t-shirts/jerseys, which is one reason for the increase. We are using the same company we used for fall, but in order to stay balanced, and put a little extra away, fees are going up by $3. The number of teams we have also affects the field budget, so we have a to make a guess about that and we're staying on the conservative side.

On a similar note, we are looking for a volunteer or two that is interested in helping us with fund raising and sponsorships. As most of you know, we partnered with Tijuana Flats last season and they gave us 10% of their sales from TU players on Sundays. We'd like to continue this sort of thing and reach out to other local businesses for support. If this is something that you are good at, let us know!

We hope to see you all January 23rd!

Spring League Registration Now Open!

Hello Ultimate Players of Tally,

We hope you had a happy holiday and are ready to come back for more ultimate! We are happy to announce that registration for Spring League is now open. Visit the Spring League page to register and find out more details.

As you all know, every season we have a new theme that inspires the jersey design and team names. If you have an idea, let us know!

Also, we will be filling a couple of captain spots for spring league. Captains are chosen by the board, based on nominations from league members. Self nominations are allowed. If you are nominating yourself, please include a brief statement about your experience playing ultimate, why you want to be a captain, and what spirit of the game means to you. Captains are not necessarily the best players. They are the ones that know the rules, can teach the game, and exemplify spirit of the game. Captains communicate with their teams throughout the season. We look forward to your nominations!

Please submit your captains nominations and ideas for themes via email, or post it on the facebook group wall. We will pare down the options and have a vote.

Thanks for playing fall league!

Hello Everyone-

Congrats to all players for a great fall league and to "The Fifth Element" (aka Orange) and "Boss Hogs on Swoll" for wins in their respective divisions.

If you were new this season, we hope that you now LOVE ultimate. If you're a TU veteran, thanks for your continued support and participation. That said, we want ultimate in Tallahassee to keep getting better and better. Please send us your suggestions and feedback from fall league. What did you like? What can we do better? How do we keep league fun for both new and experienced players? We are starting to plan for spring league, and we want your input.

Spring League will start sometime around late Janurary (exact date to be determined). Keep an eye on your email, TU website, and facebook page in the next month or so for registration. Also, if you've lost something, check out this page http://picasaweb.google.com/tallahasseeultimate/LostAndFound?feat=directlink# and contact Wendy or JaSun.

In the meantime, the FSU Ultimate teams are hosting "Five Days of Pickup" at the Main Campus Fields everyday this week during exams. Bring a white and a dark. Please be aware that non-FSU students may not be permitted to play.

Hope you all enjoy your holidays!

Playoffs!!

Fall League:

Just a reminder that Fall League Playoffs are THIS SATURDAY, Dec 4! Everyone is still in it to win it. Champs will receive discs and be the first to get the rights to the new trophy!

Please note that the location has changed to Messer Park (South side of Jackson Bluff) due to a scheduling conflict with the city's soccer programs at Tom Brown.

Open League:

Playoffs are THIS SUNDAY, Dec 5 unless the coed league gets rained out, in which case we will have to reschedule.

The location has also changed to Messer Park for the same reason.

A double elimination 5 team bracket has been posted on the Open league page.

November 18, 2010

Playoffs!

The end of Fall league is near. Feel free to fatten yourself up on Thanksgiving because you'll have a full day to run it back off. =D

Just a reminder that playoffs are on SATURDAY (not Sunday) Dec 4 starting at 11am. See the Fall league page for official schedule and format.

Everyone still has a chance to win it all!

Did we ever announce that we are making a trophy? It's mostly completed except for some lettering and painting.

League Champs will receive a disc and be the first to carry the new league trophy!!

League Updates / Fundraiser

Hey Ultimate Players!

Our very first Open League is starting this Sunday morning at Tom Brown. If you haven't registered your team yet, please help us plan accordingly by doing so at http://www.tallahasseeultimate.com/open10.html
Once we get a confirmed list of teams later in the week, you can check your game time(s) on the website.

Tijuana Flats fundraiser continues every Sunday. Come out before or after your league games on Sundays to grab some grub and mention "Tallahassee Ultimate Frisbee" when you order. Invite all your friends! Tijuana Flats will donate 10% of your meal ticket to Tallahassee Ultimate. Note this is at the store in the Publix shopping plaza on Mahan and Capital Circle, NOT the one out on Pensacola.

Coed League Jerseys are schedule to arrive at the end of this week. We should be handing them out this coming Sunday so long as no shipping problems occur.

Discs for the coed league were handed out yesterday. If you have not received yours yet, please see your team captain(s).

League Fees - If you have not already paid for your league entry fee, please do so. Online payments are preferred via Step 1 on http://www.tallahasseeultimate.com/signup.html. If you don't want to pay online please bring payment to one of the board members on Sunday (Libby, Sheri, Wendy, Cory, or JaSun). We will be coming around to collect this week.

Waivers - If you have not already filled out your waivers, please see Sheri on Sunday.

Thanks for your support!

2010 Fall League and more...

Fall league is starting on September 26. Registration is now open. Click on the Fall League link on the right for more details.

We are looking for this years' disc designs. Please submit yours to tallahasseeultimate@gmail.com. Once we decide on the theme for this season, we will also be looking for shirt designs and will ask for those too.

Also, we are closing this year's board elections and this season's captains nominations at the end of the month. Please be sure to submit yours at http://tallahasseeultimate.com/elections.html

We are having an open meeting on Wednesday, September 1st at 8:30 at The Redeye. For those interested in finding out what's happening or to give us some input, please come on out.

This year, due to popular demand, we will be experimenting with a brand new open league starting October 17. By open, we mean women are allowed to play but not required. This league will be a "bring your own team" league instead of a team draft. Stay tuned for more details.

2010-2011 Elections, Captains and Feedback

Hello Players!

The final season of our fantastic 2009-2010 year has come to an end and we are preparing for our next year. In order to make 2010-2011 the best yet, we need your help. Our goal is to have as much player input as possible in how league is run. To that end, please visit our website http://tallahasseeultimate.com/elections.html and approve or vote against the 2010-2011 board (we had only one nomination per position this year). While you are on the page, also nominate anyone you think would be a good captain and provide us with any feedback or comments you would like to share. You may nominate someone other than yourself for captain and you may nominate more than one person. You may also provide nominations, comments, and feedback by emailing us at Tallahasseeultimate [at] gmail.com.

Thank you,
TUL Volunteer Board

Message for YOUTH League (Starting Tonight!)

Dear Youth Ultimate,

Thanks to everyone for putting up with the aches and pains of a new league. We are very excited for everyone being a part of Tallahassee's first youth season.

Consider this your welcome packet.

We are starting tomorrow June 17th 6:30 @ LEON high school.

You will need to bring clothes to run in (shorts, sunscreen, hat, and cleats if you have them). You will also need to bring a dark colored and a white shirt so that we can distinguish teams till we get our shirts in. Your parents will also be very helpful as they will be required to sign insurance and waiver information. (Please print and bring them filled out).

We currently have 27 signed up, so bringing a friend will also help us get to our goal of 40 so we can have 4 teams. Also at the request of several coaches, after Thursday we will most likely be moving league to Monday nights at the Rec Plex. this will allow us better fields, and better coaches.

You also might have a chance to scrummage against a top notch open men's teams at the end of the season.

As part of your $20 dues, you will be provided a disk, a shirt, 6 weeks of USA certified coaching, and tons of memories.

We will structure each practice to work on a particular aspect of the game. Spend some time role playing some common rule violations and also spend a lot of time having fun scrimmaging against each other. If everything is successful than we will continue to grow and, some of you will be competing in the first annual "High school state championships" in November in Orlando.

Please return all e-mail questions to:
tallahasseeultimate@gmail.com or facebook group "Tallahassee Youth Ultimate"

League Updates

Hey everyone,
I'm having trouble updating the website. I think it's because the web host is doing some upgrades that's supposed to take a few days. Just wanted to keep you posted on some new information:

1. REMINDER:
There will be NO GAMES THIS SUNDAY (3/28) since alot of players will be out of town for a club tournament.
We will resume on 4/4, which will be the last regular league game before the end of season playoffs on 4/11.

2. End of Season Party:
5:30pm at the MLC Community Center (map) on Saturday April 10.
The party will run concurrently with the April Fool's Juggling Festival so there will be plenty of entertainment (Saturday night is the fire party!!). There is also a large field for throwing that pretty plastic thing around. =)
BBQ! We'll provide the meat and ask that you chip in $2 to help buy drinks, sides, desserts, etc.
Too far to drive? We can setup a carpool meetup at Tom Brown Park if you need to. Email us at tallahasseeultimate@gmail.com if you want to do that.
Free camping if you want to fall asleep under the stars.

3. Last week's results:
The Clash defeated Beastie Boys (8 - 7)
Journey forfeited to Spinal Tap
Prince defeated Guns N Roses (13 - 6)

Current Standings:
1T Prince
1T Spinal Tap
3 The Clash
4T Beastie Boys
4T Guns N Roses
6 Journey

4. SUMMER LEAGUE 2010
Planning is in the works. We're just waiting on a confirmation on field reservations and some other odds and ends. Tentatively schedule for Tuesday nights from May 25 - August 1. If you have an idea for a theme, email it to tallahasseeultimate@gmail.com

Discussion Forum Operational!

Hey everybody,

I had to work out some kinks but the new discussion board on the website is finally up and working. Click on "Forum" in the navigation bar above or click this link.

You can post messages without registering but they won't show up until an admin approves it. If you register you won't have that problem.

This is my first time creating one of these so let me know what you think or if something isn't working.

Enjoy!
Wendy

We are in the midst of planning for our Spring League! As soon as we have finalized everything it will be posted here, on Facebook, and by email.
