Inaugural Tallahassee Disc Olympics

Tallahassee Ultimate is teaming up with organizers of some other disc sports (disc golf, DDC) in the area to bring you the First Ever Tallahassee Disc Olympics. We'll have a day of fun field events. It's all for free, all you have to do is show up and have fun! Some prizes available. For more info, click the "Tallahassee Disc Olympics" link to the left of this blog.

NATIONALS!

This year Tallahassee will be well represented at USAU Club Nationals at the end of October in Sarasota, FL.

CONGRATULATIONS to the members of Sabre Corp for placing 3rd at Club Regionals and earnong a spot at Nationals.

We also had a couple members playing with Jacks on Jill who placed 2nd at Club Regionals and will also be competing at Nationals.

Announcements: Elections, League

Dear Tallahassee Ultimate Community-

We have some important announcements for you!

Board Nominations

It is time for our annual elections. We will be taking board nominations through next Tuesday August 30th at midnight. Four positions are open for nominations, so if you are interested in volunteering for league, throw your hat in the ring and tell us why you want to be on the board. You CAN nominate yourself (in fact, that's great because then we know you actually want to do it). Email your statement to us at tallahasseeultimate@gmail.com. Statement can include ultimate and leadership experiences, generally why you want to be on the board, and what you want to see happen in the greater TU community. A short paragraph is plenty. We will have an online election, so your statement will be posted for everyone to see. Go here http://www.tallahasseeultimate.com/voting.html to submit your nominations. The Tallahassee Ultimate board has 5 members:

Chair
Co-Chair
Secretary
Treasurer
Captains' Liaison*

*Captains' Liaison is not voted on by the community (so don't nominate yourself or anyone else for it), but it is chosen by the rest of the board/captains once captains for the season are selected.
**Board members (except captains' liaison) CANNOT be captains or co-captains.

Most of what we do for league is a group effort, but here is a breakdown of board responsibilities:

ALL Board Members: Determine schedule for league, set league policies, communicate with captains and league members, help set up for regular games, be available to captains and members at games, organize kickoff and finals, facilitate any clinics or social events throughout season.

Chair: Work with City Parks and Rec for field reservations (or anyone else we may rent from)
Vice Chair: liaise with USA Ultimate for sanctioning/insurance
Secretary: manage website, including online voting, registration, and league schedule
Treasurer: manage league funds, collect dues, keep board in the loop on money issues

Great Season!!

Thanks for playing Summer League 2011! We have just wrapped up our third full year of Tallahassee Ultimate. We want your feedback on how the season went so we can plan for the future. What did you like? What could be better? If this was your first time in leauge, did it meet your expectations? Any and all comments are welcome.

At some point in the next month or so we will be having nominations and elections for league officers. More information will come later on positions and roles. The board gets voted in every year, so anyone who is interested in volunteering, check out the different roles and get involved.

Summer League: Theme Announced, Designs Wanted, Women Needed

Voting has closed and the winning Summer League Theme is.... PHILOSOPHERS

Now we call on all the great artists in our community. If you have a shirt design idea that you'd like to submit, please email them to tallahasseeultimate@gmail.com or post them on our Facebook group. We'll have all the ideas out for all to vote on at the kickoff.



Also, we NEED MORE WOMEN to register. We like having a minimum of 5 girls per team so please get out there and help us recruit so we don't have to put so many dudes on a waiting list!!! More women = more teams = more dudes = more fun!!!

Also, thanks to all who participated in the recent 2nd Annual Christian Nimis Hat Tournament. The final numbers are in and we raised about $840 for The Nimis Fund!! The money will be used to promote youth ultimate in the area. Congratulations to the Chocolate team on their win. Much thanks to all of our sponsors, not to mention Mr. and Mrs. Nimis for all their hard work in making the event as special as it was. We look forward to doing it again next year!

At some point in the next couple of weeks, the TU board will be holding an open meeting, so if you have ideas for league, come and share them. Spring League Playoffs: THIS SATURDAY!

Hey Spring Leaguers!

The final tournament is upon us. It will take place this Saturday, starting at 11:00 AM at Tom Brown Park. The tournament bracket is posted at http://tallahasseeultimate.com/spring11.html.
We will be following normal league rules with one exception: all consolation games will be capped at 75 minutes instead of 90 minutes.

Remember to bring cleats or running shoes and plenty of water. We will have some water and gatorade on site as well. Depending on financial resources we will also provide fruit and possibly pizza for those who stick around to watch the championship game!

Thanks for a great season, and lets have a great tournament on Saturday! May the most mythical creature win!

College Regionals in Tallahassee! Volunteers Needed!

A message from Ona and Cheese (FSU Ultimate Clubs):

USA Ultimate has become convinced that FSU and Tallahassee has some of the best fields in the region for Ultimate Frisbee, as well as some of the best community of Ultimate in the region. We have won the bid to host both Women's and Men's College Regionals at the FSU SportsPlex (RecPlex) April 30th-May1st, and that means, we need volunteers!! We had lots of great volunteers for Tally Classic, and we need you to come out in equal force for Regionals. We will need people the days of the event, and the Friday prior to ensure this event goes smoothly.

In addition to getting to watch some great ultimate, you will receive at least edible reimbursement, and maybe more depending on your level of participation.

Christian Nimis Hatter

We hope you can join us for the 2nd Annual Christian Nimis Memorial Hat Tournament. The tourney will be held Saturday, March 26th at Tom Brown Park (time TBD). This is going to be a special event in honor of Christian Nimis, who was instrumental in starting up the ultimate club at SAIL High School, and introduced a lot of people to the sport. Proceeds will go to support youth ultimate in Tallahassee.

Cost if you pre-register is $25 for adults and $20 for youth (under 18). Day-of cost is $30 for adults and $25 for youth. T-shirt is included in registration; discs will be for sale at the event for $10.

We are planning for a big event with food, prizes, and overall a lot of fun, so even if you don't plan to play, we would still love to have you come out to watch and enjoy the festivities! Please help us spread the word by sending out this info to your friends, especially to young players (or potential players). This could be a great introduction for someone new to the sport, and we want ultimate in Tallahassee to grow!

Tally Classic Next Week

Just a reminder that there will not be any league games next week in support of the Tally Classic college tournament happening.

The FSU ultimate team is hosting this and is asking for volunteers to help with score keeping, merchandise sales, TD's, security, etc. It's also a great opportunity to watch some exciting, high level ultimate. League Updates

Hey everyone,

Spring League is just around the corner! Thanks for all of your captain nominations and theme ideas.

We are pleased to announce that this season's captains will be Luke DeGroote, Daniel Hooker, Paul Guyas, Jay Quigley, Josh Boyd, and Anthony Perez. In the case that we have 8 teams instead of 6 we'll ask for more volunteers.

We've narrowed your theme ideas down to a few choices. Please go to http://www.tallahasseeultimate.com/voting.html. We'll close the ballot this Friday, announce the winner, and ask for your jersey design submissions.

There will be a few new changes in format that we'll be experimenting with this season. In order to make spirit more of a priority, we'll be emphasizing it more by having it weigh more in the team rankings throughout the season.
