Spring League is here!

Spring league registration is now open!

A couple of things:
1. We're trying out some new registration questions to see if we can improve team parity (courtesy of Matthew Crowson).
2. Inflation!! We had to raise the price by $5. Reasons are USAU insurance raised $2pp this year, shirts costs have increased by $2 since last year, plus other things like business taxes and board member entry fees. Sorry if this upsets anyone, we really don't like having to raise the price but that's what needs to happen.
3. We're looking for theme ideas.  Post your ideas to our Facebook group or email them to tallahasseeultimate@gmail.com

Tallahassee Ultimate NEWS!

Dear Tallahassee Ultimate Members-

We are halfway through our fall season of league, and things are going great!  We hope the new folks are getting the hang of ultimate.  If you want some extra time to work on skills, email us or your captain, and we can figure something out--meet early before league with a group or something.

We want to keep you all updated on the big picture of Tallahassee Ultimate.  We are working to make a name for our organization--things like marketing, sponsorship, and partners in the community.  One of our main goals is to build up youth ultimate.   Getting kids involved in the sport is essential for the overall growth of ultimate.  Kids learning the sport younger leads to stronger leagues and stronger club and college teams.  We'll keep everyone updated as things progress, but our plan is to get some youth clinics going in the new year.  If this is something you want to be involved in, send us an email.  

Our other initiatives right now are creating a logo and some marketing materials for Tallahassee Ultimate.  Julia Holly and some other league members are working with the board to make this happen.  We want to be a recognized organization in the community (think Gulf Winds Track Club or Tallahassee Rollergirls--even if you aren't a part of these groups, you've heard of them, or seen their shirts or stickers).

It's that time of year again.  Time to vote on candidates for the Tallahassee Ultimate Board of Directors.  We've also narrowed down your Fall League theme ideas to 6 and are taking votes for that as well.  Finally,
there are some new policies that we want to implement and want you to vote on those as well.

There are some important events coming up!
League Board Nominations/Elections

It is time again for our annual election of officers. Get your nominations to us by the end of August and we will have elections soon after. Four positions are open, so if you are interested in volunteering for league, throw your hat in the ring and tell us why you want to be on the board. You CAN nominate yourself (in fact, that's great because then we know you actually want to do it). Email your statement to us at tallahasseeultimate@gmail.com. Your statement can include ultimate and leadership experiences, generally why you want to be on the board, and what you want to see happen in the greater TU community. A short paragraph is plenty. We will have an online election, so your statement will be posted for everyone to see. More info about board roles below.

We have not set dates yet for fall league, but keep an eye out for dates and registration in the coming weeks. Also, get started on disc designs, and be thinking about themes for fall. In the meantime, keep playing! Check out our facebook group "Tallahassee Ultimate" for info on pickups.

The Tallahassee Ultimate board has 5 members:
Chair
Co-Chair
Secretary
Treasurer
Captains' Liaison*

*Captains' Liaison is not voted on by the community (so don't nominate yourself or anyone else for it), but it is chosen by the rest of the board/captains once captains for the season are selected.

**Board members (except captains' liaison) CANNOT be captains or co-captains.

Most of what we do for league is a group effort, but here is a breakdown of board responsibilities:

ALL Board Members: Determine schedule for league, set league policies, communicate with captains and league members, help set up for regular games, be available to captains and members at games, organize kickoff and finals, facilitate any clinics or social events throughout season.

Chair: Work with City Parks and Rec for field reservations (or anyone else we may rent from)
Vice Chair: liaise with USA Ultimate for sanctioning/insurance
Secretary: manage website, including online voting, registration, and league schedule
Treasurer: manage league funds, collect dues, keep board in the loop on money issues

Wizards VS Gangsters Expo!

Summer League 2012 we are hosting our first ever expo game with fantasy ultimate... On June 26, at 6:30 a new chapter in the eternal struggle between Wizards and Gangsters will be written as the top representatives of both sides will come together in a clash for the ages. 15 of the roughest, toughest Gangsters will butt heads with 15 of the most mystical, arcane Wizards and you get to watch! Not only do you get to witness this epic spectacle, you'll even get to fantasize about it! That's right, we're introducing fantasy ultimate to Tallahassee Ultimate. We'll have 30 players duking it out, so on a first come first served basis, we'll be allowing 30 spectators to draft a fantasy player. A point will be given when your player scores, throws a score, or gets a d. A point will be deducted if your player is responsible for a turnover. Prizes will be awarded to spectators who choose wisely and rack up the points. Come out, cheer on your favorite side, and get ready to witness what may be the single greatest event in the history of this ageless struggle! Fundraiser to follow at Nuberri Frozen Yogurt. Summer League!

Starts May 22, registration is now open! Visit the summer league page to sign up and to find out more information.

Summer league voting closes tomorrow (Friday) at midnight. Be sure to get your votes in now.

This season we are offering a large discount to youth (under 19) players who join our league. You youngins will only have to pay $10 for your entire summer league entry fee. The rest will be subsidized by The Nimis Fund, which is dedicated to developing youth ultimate in Tallahassee.

Tally Classic!

FSUltimate hosts the seventh annual Tally Classic this weekend, March 10th and 11th. This is a huge tournament, with 50 teams from the eastern U.S. participating. We'd love to see lots of members from the Tallahassee Ultimate community out there supporting the FSU teams. Come out to the FSU RecPlex on Saturday and Sunday to see some great ultimate!
